Growing Together: Nourishing Community in the Year Ahead

Posted

December arrives in a flurry—full of celebrations, to-do lists, glittering lights, and year-end activity. In all the excitement, it can be easy to forget to pause and savor the small moments that make the season meaningful: a warm cookie, a shared cup of hot chocolate with friends, a familiar carol, the sparkle of lights. These simple joys remind us of what matters as one year ends and another begins to take shape.

At Friends Village, December offers that same invitation to reflect, reconnect, and look forward. Throughout 2025, our focus was on building community—welcoming new faces, strengthening friendships, and creating opportunities for neighbors of all ages to learn, participate, and feel at home. As we turn toward 2026, we embrace the next step: Growing Together by nourishing the community we’ve built through wellness, curiosity, creativity, and meaningful experiences that support personal and collective growth.

Our next Open House Tour will take place on December 17, from 10 am–12 pm, offering a relaxed opportunity to explore Friends Village, meet staff and residents, and learn about our holistic approach to senior living. As the new year approaches, we are excited to offer an expanded lineup of programs, and we encourage guests to explore our growing list of programs at www.friends-village.org/growth, where new offerings are added regularly.

In 2026, Senior Planet from AARP returns on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 am to 12:15 pm, bringing workshops designed to help older adults learn new skills in a supportive setting. On Tuesday, January 27, at 2:30 p.m., our Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve lecture series returns with a talk by Santino on Native Plants that Have Shaped Our History.

February brings a six-week dance class held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2–3 p.m., as well as a lecture from The Gather Place on Hannah Penn, Pennsylvania’s first First Lady. In March, Yoga for Seniors returns to restore balance and movement just in time for spring.

And these programs are just the beginning

As we celebrate the season and step into a new year, may we continue to learn, share, laugh, and—above all—grow together.
