The Friends of the Delaware Canal (FODC) are excited for their annual Canal Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 9:00am - Noon. Volunteers who treasure the canal’s beauty will gather from Bristol, PA to Easton, PA to clear trash, debris, and brush from the historic waterway and towpath. The activities will run the 60-mile span of the Canal and will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon.
Michael Ginder, Executive Director of FODC, said, “Clean Up Day is one of the best days of the year along the Canal and it can make an immediate difference you can see. Our volunteers show up, roll up their sleeves, and make a direct impact. We’re excited to welcome even more people of all ages to be part of it. This is what community looks like in action.”
Gloves, waterproof foot gear, long-handled rakes, grabbing implements, and branch snippers are useful tools to bring along to Canal Clean-Up Day along with plenty of trash bags. Participants are encouraged to bring a canoe or kayak, if they have one. The trash that accumulates on the berm side of the Canal (the side opposite the river) is most easily retrieved from a boat, and, sometimes, it’s the only way to get to it safely.
Volunteers will be working all along the Canal’s 58.9-mile length, but help is especially needed in the areas listed below. Participants can fill out the online form found at https://fodc.org/friends-
